Alphabet soup adaptations

After receiving my crit on Friday i thought i needed to experiment with some changes to my typeface. I started by testing upper and lowercase to see whether my rules applied for both styles of font. I then tested my font to see whether it worked with just an outline, after wards i experimented with some more interesting fills relating to Liams interests such as Japanese manga artwork. I then progressed to just using the top of the speech bubble but using it as a serif. This project is still under construction so expect more developments soon :)

19/10/10 Working with wording

Yesterday we stepped back a couple of years and re-capped on some basic English principles so that our minds were refreshed on how to correctly word things. This included taking an article from a newspaper and re writing it in just 140/160 characters, we also looked at how you can play on words using riddles.

Own found riddle;

A man was at a bar feeling poor he sees a rich man take 50's out his pocket to pay the cashier.The poor man says to the rich man "I know all the songs known to man." The rich man laughed and said,"I bet you all the money in my pocket that you can't sing a song with my daughter's name in it, Sarah Lee Greyson." The poor man went home rich and the rich man went home poor. What song did the man sing?...............................................................................................happy birthday

 I changed the article above so it was short and simple and within 140 words, this is how it read... X factor star accused of leaking saucy story about her and rival being found in bed together. Bosses were quick to play down the story and i think that's starting to show.

Alphabet Soup Final Piece 15/10/10

Alphabet Soup

Below are some images from my current project showing the progression towards my final piece which i have posted above.

These are some worksheets i created to help my though processes across the period of time I completed my project.

The font below i spotted on typography served and gave me the idea to keep my modifcation of my typeface really subtle. I liked the way each opposite or single serif slightly curved round at the edge, It gives the text some sort of personality.
I used this idea to incorporate the idea of using speech bubbles in my work.

Sequences

These photos are from Tuesday the 12th of Octobers session where we look at working with type to represent a sequence.  We used 10cm by 10cm frames to establish the ways layout can be used to transfer a message, the more obvious the better in some cases.
